Dr. Mehrdad Sarfaraz

Mehrdad Sarfaraz received his BS from Aryamehr University of Technology in physics in 1977 and came to the US to pursue his graduate study on a scholarship from Iranian Atomic Energy Organization. He received his MS in physics from Michigan State University in 1979 and went back to Iran to teach on faculty of Sharif University of Technology. He came back to finish his graduate study in the US in 1983 but switched his field of study and received his MS in Medical Physics from University of Colorado Health Science Center in 1986 and PhD from George Washington University in 2000.

Mehrdad Sarfaraz joined University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore after graduating from  University of Colorado and advanced to the rank of Associate Professor before leaving the academia. Afterward  he worked in different Radiation Oncology departments as Chief Medical Physicist. His recent position at MedStar Health, a conglomerate health organization in Maryland and Washington DC is Chief Technology and Innovation Officer.

Mehrdad Sarfaraz is certified by American Board of Radiology and is active member of multiple professional organizations and involved in many professional activities including:

       •      Iranian-American Physicists in Medicine

       •      American College of Medical Physics Board of Chancellors

       •      President, Mid-Atlantic Chapter of AAPM, 2002
