Dear Sharif University of Technology Associate,

The Board of Directors of SUTA (Sharif University of Technology Association) of the Greater Washington DC cordially invites you to become member of the Washington, DC Chapter. You were probably present during the first gathering of Sharif University of Technology associates at University of Maryland, College Park Campus on May 11th this year when we were elected to serve as board of directors to establish Washington, DC chapter of SUTA. The mission of SUTA as indicated in its bylaws is “to enhance professional, academic, and social contacts among its membership, and to strengthen the ties between the association members living outside of Iran and the University with the goal of contributing to the advancement of the academic programs at the University and more importantly having a measurable impact o¬n the technological advancement of Iran.”

Let me briefly describe the activities of our Board of Directors since the first gathering in May. We met three times and drafted chapter bylaws and decided to schedule two more gatherings before the yearend. We also discussed possibility of hosting next SUTA reunion in Washington, DC area. I am pleased to announce that we have confirmed a social gathering at Sine restaurant in Arlington, VA for Friday evening on November 22nd. Please mark your calendar since this is going to be a great opportunity to see old friends and make new connections (more detail will be sent out as we get closer to the date).

Once again we invite you to become chapter members and participate in the chapter activities by becoming SUTA member and indicating Washington, DC as your chapter. Please visit SUTA Membership page  to enroll. You can also take a look at SUTA activities reflected in its present and past newsletters.

We hope to see you soon.

Sincerely,
Mehrdad Sarafraz & Alborz Alavian

1st session to establish Greater Washington DC Chapter of SUTA

Sharif University of Technology Association (SUTA) is a global   organization formed in 2000 to facilitate communication and collaboration among the graduates, faculty and staff of the Sharif University of Technology (SUT)  (formerly Aryamehr University of Technology). Since then, SUTA has been able to bridge the gap among more than 1200 SUT graduates mostly living outside Iran. SUTA is structured around regional groups of SUT graduates. Currently, there are 15 of these chapters all around the globe.

Washington DC Metropolitan area is the home for considerable number of educated, talented, and hard working SUT graduates, most of them are industrially, academically, financially, or even politically recognized. Despite this fact, we have not had a SUTA chapter in this area yet.

To this end, we would like to invite you to a gathering on May 11 2013, 4:30 to 6:30 pm, at University of Maryland, College Park, Lecture Hall (Kim Bldg #1110), 1st Floor, to establish SUTA chapter in the Greater Washington DC, define the mission, elect the officers including the Board of Directors, President, etc., and create the initial schedule of events.

Your attendance in this meeting would certainly help creating a stronger, and effective network of Sharif graduates. We encourage you to notify us about your attendance by simply going here to RSVP directly.

We would also appreciate if you distribute this invitation among other interested friends by forwarding this link, sharing our Facebook invitation, or any other appropriate means.

Date:  May 11 2013

Time: 4:30-6:30pm
